Hades and Persephone This piece explores storytelling through a series of interconnected drawings that move beyond traditional compositional boundaries. Initially conceived as a single large piece, the project evolved into a sequence of scenes, allowing for a more dynamic and immersive narrative. Figures and moments bleed into one another, creating a continuous visual flow that reflects the complexity of the story being told.
Influenced by the linear compositions of Nancy Spero, I was drawn to the expressive potential of elongated formats and the way they disrupt conventional framing. This approach informed my interest in mythological storytelling, particularly in reinterpreting familiar narratives. Inspired by Rachel Smythe’s Lore Olympus, I sought to challenge contemporary adaptations of the Hades and Persephone myth. Rather than romanticizing the story, my work emphasizes the darker dynamics of power, highlighting the agency and strength of Demeter and Persephone while reframing Zeus and Hades as antagonistic forces. Through this work, I aim to continue developing visual narratives that question dominant interpretations and create space for reimagined perspectives.
